Many of our MTKC students have been successful on Broadway or in Hollywood, and hundreds of them are currently using their theatre and music talents to work professionally. Many of them graciously return to MTKC to teach, train and share their expertise with our students. They will tell you they gravitate back to the program because of their personal experience as an MTKC student.

Music Theatre Kansas City is a not-for-profit 501(c)3. In an effort to control tuition costs to our students, MTKC relies on fundraisers, individual gifts, and grants to maintain the quality of program.

Most of them are from the Kansas City metropolitan area, especially during the school year. However, we have had students from all over the country participate in the summer. We welcome all students who are looking for an intensive week-long experience in music theatre performance.

Julie Tree Fund
All contributions to this fund support one purpose: bringing live musicians to every MTKC production. Live orchestras—large or small—enhance our shows with true professional quality. We honor each composer’s original orchestration and provide valuable opportunities by reserving at least 25% of our orchestra seats for student musicians.
"Continue the Tradition"
Since 2001, Artistic Director & Resident Music Director Julie Danielson has shaped the signature sound of MTKC, guiding our choruses and nurturing the musicianship that defines every production. In 2008, she led MTKC’s first full pit orchestra, launching a tradition audiences now eagerly anticipate and deeply value.
Live orchestras offer students an extraordinary educational experience and allow MTKC to connect with a wider community of young artists. We proudly hire local professional musicians at a fair wage and reserve opportunities for high school and college players to learn alongside them.
To honor Julie’s impact, Hermes Landscaping donated a tree now planted outside the Baker University theater.
Contributions to The Julie Tree Fund ensure that MTKC can continue this beloved tradition of live orchestras for years to come. To support the fund and help keep live music at the heart of every MTKC production, please donate using the button below or send contributions to:
